Practice areas - Transport and international trade

The Transport and international trade team focuses on all legal issues concerning international land and sea transport. This teams specialises in:

  • Collisions
  • Cargo damage
  • Disputes on ship building contracts
  • Charter parties, ship’s agency agreements, stevedoring damage and bill of lading conditions
  • Ships' arrests
  • Liability under the CMR-convention
  • Commercial contracts (franchising, distribution and agency)

The wet practice is an international litigation practice. If a case cannot be settled amicably, the case is brought to litigation. The lawyers in this team have the expertise to arrest a vessel within some hours after the instructions have been received. On the other hand, they also have the knowledge and expertise to obtain the lifting of an arrest. This practice group acts for, amongst others: ship owners, their liability insurers (P&I clubs), hull underwriters (hull & machinery clubs), freight, demurrage & defence clubs, charterers, cargo interests and shipyards.
